To encourage Ontario residents to sort their waste properly and raise awareness about the importance of reducing waste contamination rates.
Education is often seen as a key solution to the City’s recycling challenges. The idea is that if residents are well-informed about proper waste sorting and recycling practices, contamination rates will decrease. However, a public education campaign may yield inconsistent results. As a diverse, multicultural city that continually welcomes new residents and tourists from across Canada and around the globe, Toronto faces ongoing challenges in maintaining awareness. Even if the current population were thoroughly educated on waste disposal practices, contamination rates could likely rise again within a year as newcomers settle into the city.
