Toronto Sustainability Tour

  • Toronto BEC created a Sustainability Tour with 10 sites around the city that illustrate the 10 Themes of Sustainability. All the sites are accessible and are good places for learning and relaxing.
  • A map with locations and a bicycle route is included in the tour book. That tour book may be downloaded here: [link

Tree Talks (in association with Future Watch)

  • Sustainable Recreation at High Park (see photo just below) on 27 August 2022. At this Tree Talk, members of Future Watch and Toronto BEC conducted a guided tour and discussion of the park. They pointed out all the recreation opportunities, including tennis, baseball, soccer, skating, swimming and children’s playgrounds. They also referred to passive recreation, including picnics and nature education.
  • Circular Economy (Waste) at the Toronto Tool Library (see photo to right) on 10 June 2023. The tool library has thousands of tools that members can borrow for home renovations, gardening, repairs and more. This creates great physical and financial savings. There is also a “maker space” at the library where hobbyist have built anything from cabinets to guitars.
  • Habitat at the Humber Bay Butterfly Habitat (see photo bottom right) on 19 August 2023. Judeen, Toronto BEC’s biologist, guided people through the two hectares (4 acres) of critical habitat for native butterflies. She pointed out the variety of trees wildflowers, and shortgrass prairie plants, where butterflies feed and rest, and which add to the beauty of a walk through this area.
